Hurricane Katrina

There are no words that can explain the devastating damage that Hurricane Katrina has inflicted upon the Gulf Coast of the USA. After reading and watching news clips of this disaster I can honestly say I am speechless. I read one story about a woman who's husband had died and she wrapped his body in a sheet and put him on a floating board to take with her because she didn't want to leave his body. This story makes me literally weep. I cannot imagine what she must be going through. I am not a highly religious person, but today I found myself praying to God. Praying for Him to help all the thousands of people that are without homes, food and family. Also praying for Him to help the looters, the people that have so obviously lost their minds in the wake of this disaster. I wish there was something that I could do. I feel guilty living my life, eating food and sleeping in a bed, while people on my own continent are just trying to survive, to live.
We take things in life so much for granted these days and I am going to stop doing this. I am not going to complain about gas prices rising, I am going to live each day as if it is a gift, because it is. I know this post is depressing, but it is all I can think about right now.
To the citizens of Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia and anyone else that has been affected by this disaster: My thoughts and my prayers are with you all.

I couldn't have said it better Ang. I truly believe that God doesn't give us more than we can handle...even at this magnatude. People truly are suffering and at times I kind of have to get away from the TV because it can take over our minds, even this far away. But it is truly disgraceful how LONG it is taking to get rescue to the people in the southern US. How much do you want to bet if that had happened in Hollywood everyone would be evacuated by now. It's just shameful. Prayers and positive thoughts for the people and government dealing with this awful Hurricane aftermath, that they would be wise in their decisions. The ones in control are, after all, only human as well. Huggs !
Angie, Thank you for stopping by my blog again and letting me know about the article regarding our President declining help at this time.
I have now heard of other such stories and am even more shocked that he is doing this or should we say, NOT doing as he should! This is beyond words. I don't know what the heck he is thinking in turning down help.
My husband and I have talked about where the US is heading these days and we really don't like it. There are problems cropping up that are becoming frightening regarding this countries future. We have talked often about moving to Canada, but since I was diagnosed with breast cancer that pretty much sealed our having to stay where we are.
I really appreciate hearing that there are plenty out there that are just as struck with the tradegy as we are here. I am glad to hear there is help offers pouring in. I am sickened to hear there are people still dying and it may be because those offers of help have been turned down.
As far as Shelley comment, she is so right that the ones in control are only human as well, but they were the ones that deemed they would be able to handle situations and felt confident enough to run for the various offices. I guess we are now seeing that that is not the case.
I will be updating my blog soon to reflect this newest information. I just had another chemo today and I'm not feeling the best, but I will get to it as soon as possible.
Thanks again.
Smiles to you,
Mary
