Dry socket?!?!

Well, it’s over (I hope). A week ago today I got my 4 wisdom teeth removed. I don’t remember a thing about the procedure. I thought I was healing pretty well until a couple of days ago I began to have A LOT of pain in the lower part of my jaw. I went back to the surgeon and was informed that I have dry socket in the lower right socket. This means that either a blood clot never formed in the socket or I lost it somehow and the socket can’t heal, leaving a gapping painful hole in my mouth. Great. He proceeded to stuff this stringy green stuff he called “fibers soaked in medicine” into the socket. I didn’t really notice the smell or taste of the stuff until I got home and took out the gauze he covered the socket with. NEVER in my life have I smelled or tasted something so disgusting! It smells and tastes like gasoline, leaves, dirt and mold all mashed together. It is coming out of the socket today and sliding down my throat and making me gag. On Wednesday I have to go back in and have whatever is left pulled out. So this putrid crap is going to be sitting in my mouth for almost a week! Everything I eat tastes like it… I think I have lost close to 10 pounds in one week from barley eating anything… if I don’t eat something solid soon, I will freak!!! That has been the worst part (besides the dry socket) of this whole ordeal.
I NEED TO EAT REAL FOOD!!!!

On a happier note, my friend emailed me this picture today and it made me feel better…they are so cute!

I hate this...

This has been the week from hell… starting with last Thursday… I had an allergic reaction to penicillin; boss had to drive me home from work. I had a rash and a massive headache for 3 days… I couldn’t move my eyeballs around. Then sometime on the weekend, not sure how or when, I pulled something in my lower back and could hardly walk. I am just starting to feel normal again. And tomorrow…… tomorrow is the big day… I am getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, two of which are impacted. I am not looking forward to this at all! I have never been so scared of something in my whole entire life! It doesn’t help that the surgeon himself told me that I would probably be in SEVERE pain when the freezing wears off. I am being sedated but I am very worried about the sedation wearing off in the middle and me being completely aware that there is someone digging around in my mouth. I will freak out!

Also, there is a big book fair going on this Sunday and I HAVE TO GO! I go every year. I cannot miss it. So even if my face looks and feels like I was in a boxing match, I am going!

Maybe I should just run away tonight… take a train and start a new life somewhere else…

Bird Seed?

I came across this article on msn today and I found it to be quite amusing:

Retiree charged after cops see pot plant on balcony; says seed dropped by pet birds

03/09/2005 5:12:00 PM

ATHENS, Greece (AP) - A 75-year-old Greek woman has been charged with drug offences after police in her sleepy island village spotted a small cannabis plant growing on her balcony, authorities said.

Hariklia Griva, a widowed mother of four from Ayiassos, on the eastern Aegean Sea island of Lesvos, was arrested Wednesday and charged with growing cannabis with the intent of trafficking in the drug. She was released on bail of the equivalent of about $3,000 Cdn.
The retiree, whose late husband was a policeman, told police the 25-centimetre potted plant grew from seed dropped by her pet canaries. The birds live in a cage on the balcony overlooking a busy Ayiassos street - opposite the local police station.

"I couldn't believe it when they told me I was being arrested," Griva said. "The plant must have grown from the bird seed. I had no idea what the plant was. I watered it regularly. I thought it looked quite nice." (hahaha)

I am so sore!

So I started at the gym... Here is how it has been so far...

Tuesday: I had an appointment with a trainer for a "Cardio Start". This meant that I was shown how to use the cardio machines i.e. the treadmill, the bikes.. etc. This was not too bad. I was there for maybe 30 mins.

Wednesday: I had an appointment for a session called "Worth the Weights". I was paired with a different trainer and she made me do so much more than than trainer from the day before! I was shown how to use 6 different weight machines that target the main muscles of the body. We then went into a different room and used an exercise ball for abs and squats. We also did some stretches. This session lasted about an hour and I felt pretty good at the end.

Thursday: I woke up this morning and felt okay, until I got out of bed and put my feet on the floor... my thighs hurt so bad! I found it really hard to walk up and down the stairs at work, I guess it didn't help much that I wore heels! I had another appointment with the same trainer tonight and she worked me 3 times as hard! We did cardio and 24 reps of the 6 weight stations! We then did all kinds of stretches. This is a lot for a person that never exercises! I am not in good shape right now and I am dreading what I will feel like in the morning!

That was my last session with the trainer and now I am on my own! I am really looking forward to beginning this journey of getting into shape!

One last thing... this was forwarded to me and I thought it was so cute!

Babies and pizza...

Last night I went to visit my friend Karen. 2 weeks ago she gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL baby boy she called Austin. I have never held a baby that was only 2 weeks old before and I was amazed that I wasn't nervous holding him. Every part of him is so small... it is really hard to believe that we were all this small at one time in our lives. I CANNOT WAIT to have one of my own someday!

So I ended up joining the gym the other day and they gave me a folder with a class schedule, my contract and other information I may need. Also in this folder was COUPONS FOR PIZZA! I couldn't believe it! It is almost as if they want you to ingest thousands of calories and then go there to burn them off! Yeah, that was the last thing I needed, coupons to get discounts on greasy pizzas!

Well, those are my thoughts for the day. I am off to the in-laws for the weekend and have to start getting ready! Have a good weekend!

Hurricane Katrina

There are no words that can explain the devastating damage that Hurricane Katrina has inflicted upon the Gulf Coast of the USA. After reading and watching news clips of this disaster I can honestly say I am speechless. I read one story about a woman who's husband had died and she wrapped his body in a sheet and put him on a floating board to take with her because she didn't want to leave his body. This story makes me literally weep. I cannot imagine what she must be going through. I am not a highly religious person, but today I found myself praying to God. Praying for Him to help all the thousands of people that are without homes, food and family. Also praying for Him to help the looters, the people that have so obviously lost their minds in the wake of this disaster. I wish there was something that I could do. I feel guilty living my life, eating food and sleeping in a bed, while people on my own continent are just trying to survive, to live.

We take things in life so much for granted these days and I am going to stop doing this. I am not going to complain about gas prices rising, I am going to live each day as if it is a gift, because it is. I know this post is depressing, but it is all I can think about right now.

To the citizens of Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia and anyone else that has been affected by this disaster: My thoughts and my prayers are with you all.
